It really is the thought that counts for mothers on their special day
(17/03/2009)
What do mums want most on Mother's Day? A DotComGiftShop.Com survey of online shoppers has provided the answer, and it's quite a surprise: what mothers desire most on their special day is simply a hug.
Adrian Smith, press officer, DotComGiftShop.com, says: "Exactly half of the mums questioned for the survey said a cuddle was what they hoped for most as the annual reward for their maternal duties. Equally surprising was that the traditional Mother's Day present of a box of chocolates came bottom of the 'most wanted' list with a meagre 3% of votes, and the old 'default' gift of flowers only mustered 20%."
A close second to a hug in the popularity stakes was a 'personally chosen or an unusual gift' - something of a specialist area for DotComGiftShop.Com - favoured by 45% of those polled. Other high-scoring but inexpensive options were a card (40%) and lots of attention (34%).
The budget options scored highest across the board, as more mothers opted for the personal touch of a home-made dinner as their first choice of gift (26%) than the treat of a meal out at a restaurant (19%).
Smith concludes: "It's clear from the survey that it really is the thought that counts on Mother's Day - and that's no bad thing in these recessionary times."
There are plenty of cheap Mother's Day gifts available at DotComGiftShop.Com. There are also hundreds of bargains - many under £10 - in the DotComGiftShop jewellery sale.
